{Announcement} Let's Celebrate December

Hi there - it's me, Lu – the owner of Style By Lu – my passion for fashion surrounds everything that I do from planning beautiful events & weddings – to dressing my clients in what makes them look & feel good. I’m bringing my bestie Del  along for the ride for this blog – we both want to share & inspire you when it comes to Fashion, DIY, Looks to Love, Weddings and of course food! Del & I have been besties since grade 1 – and have a love for fashion that runs so deep! We always dress to impress; enjoy the finer things in life (like late night dance parties), and love wining and dining. Together we are a dynamite duo – who has a voice & a distinct eye for what looks good. All blogs written by me (Lu) will be called, Lu's Take & all blogs written by Del will be called, Del's Dish. I thought it was important to incorporate another perspective - and who better than to share with my bestie!

West Elm I Heart You

I am a major West Elm junkie - Happy to admit it too! Not only do I love clothes & fashion - I love decorating & making things pretty! I went to West Elm today to update the pillows in my living room - I wanted to add colour & texture - but match my current Blake Couch (aslo West Elm!).

Did I ever...Buy More to Save More! ha!

BTW - West Elm has great stuff right now for the holidays - perfect gift ideas for everyone on your list. I suggest checking it out sooner, rather than later - get the goods while they still have a ton of inventory. Need holiday decorating ideas - they have those too!

New York City - Where to sleep, eat & shop!

NYC is one of my favourite cities. If I could move there I would (just so darn expensive!). I heart everything about it - primarily when I am there I Shop, Eat, & Drink - why not, right? The below list of recommendations has been growing for quite some time - it's making it harder and harder to hit my favourite places each time - as I have so many. If you have any goodies to add - please do so in the commenting area below.

Where to sleep:

Ace hotel: little pricey but fabulous

Gild Hall: great pricing, very cute (cottagey looking), + close to Century 21

The Bowery

The Standard Hotel

Where to eat & drink:

 “Beauty and Essex”

“Peasant” – Get the cheese plate in the basement – AMAZE

“Otto” – best gelato

“Lesquina” – great Mexican food

“Breslin” – the lamb burget is out of this world!

“The Jimmy @ The James” - Awesome cocktail bar - very cool and great view

“Mono + Mono” - Very hip Korean bar w amazing chicken wings

“The Meatbsll shoppe” – Enough said, right?

-“Clinton Street Bakery”

“Gus' Pickles”

“Schiller's” - best mac and cheese

“Lombardi's Pizza”  best pizza in town NO JOKE.

“BREAD” -  best Tomato soup EVER

“Cubana Café”  - DEFINITELY ORDER A CORN ON THE COB, THE FOOD HERE IS INCREDIBLE AND IT'S ALWAYSSSS PACKED, BUT THE LINE MOVES RATHER QUICKLY SO DON'T GIVE UP, IT'S TOTALLYYYY WORTH THE WAIT

“Balthazar” If you want to see celebrities – go on a Sunday, they are always there for the brunch.

“Pastis”  - delish

“The Standard Hotel” – great for drinks! Go to either the beirgarden or Standard café/hotel bar. Such a fun place – it’s like you have suddenly landed in Germany!

“Dylan’s Steak” – so yumtastic – but pricey

“Dos Caminos” – great guac & outdoor patio (always go here!)

"The Grey Dog" - for breakie

"Soho Cafe" - lunchie

Where to shop:

Uniqlo – you can find great basics here at a reasonable price (5th Avenue or Soho)

Madewell – new favourite store

Intermix – their sale rack is always amaze

Dash – hey maybe you will see a Kardashian? (meh)

Century 21 – be prepared to dig, sweat, & find amazing designer things for less (give yourself at least 3 hours!)

Macy’s – I always go here for jackets & shoes – I always have the best luck. Look for coupons online before you go – 2x’s the savings usually!

Barney’s – most dynamite jean wall – love it!

Bloomingdales – carry so many great brands & have amaze shoes

Saks – just go see – it’s worth it even if you don’t buy anything

Nike Town – such a cool vibe – treat yourself to a new pair of runners

If you walk around the Lower East Side you will find some awesome stores; but most of them are on Broome, Clinton, and Rivington. They have some awesome local designers and a lot of American Designers that you can't even get here.

In Soho, - Mott Street has amazing shopping as well;  little boutiques with local designers. Lots of great vintage shops too!

Houston, Broadway, Spring, Prince, etc. are the  main streets in SOHO and it has all the typical shops there, Victoria's Secret, Steve Madden, all the name brands. Walk up and down there and venture on the side streets, even the like big name brand stores are cool to just walk into cause of the setup. They really have wicked displays and designs to the stores.

-Walk around the Meat Packing disctrict, they have wicked stores. Big names like Stella McCartney, Diane Von Fustenberg, Shellee Steffee are all there! (34 Gansevoort Street)

 Other good stuff:

Head to the high-line trail with a camera and coffee – it’s a real gem! They have a great website – so google it before you go!

Everytime I go to New York I try new things – these are just suggestions (and the list has grown from people providing steller reco's prior to my trip every year!)

If you find any gems – share the wealth & let me know!

Have a great trip!
