Style Question: The Maxi Dress

Style Question: Can not-so-skinny women who are 5'6 and under wear these new maxi dresses?

The answer is, "Yes, you can!".

Here's how:

  • If you are worried about looking short or "not-so-skinny", opt for a maxi dress that is well cut, floor length, and sits closely to your body.
  • It's easy to look like you are wearing a "tent" with a maxi dress, so try to find one that has a waist - or empire style. The empire style will minimize the belly and elongate your torso.
  • If you are a chesty person - opt for a v-neck neckline - this will help remove some of the bulk in this area - and streamline your figure.
  • If you want to add height wear wedged sandles.

This season the maxi dresses are all about the patterns, the lace, and the details. Sure, you can get away with a solid colour - and yes, this would be an easier choice, but the florals, tie-dyes, and prints are more fun and bright for this Spring/Summer.

Try on many styles - you will find one that is right for your body & shape. There are many options to choose from - and in all different price ranges.

The maxi-dresses above are from:

1. Anthropologie

2. Dynamite

3. Free People

4. Old Navy

5. Top Shop
